The Sandler Training Golf Team Marches On as Woody Austin Finishes in Top Five at World Golf Championship in Marana, Arizona

Woody Austin had a super week, finishing in a tie for fifth at the World Golf Championship-Accenture Match Play Championship in the Sonoran desert. Austin opened with an opening day win over Toru Taniguchi that Austin called “a dream match…I did what I was supposed to in match play,” he told PGATOUR.COM. “I never gave him a hole.”

In his best finish of the 2008 PGA Tour, Austin went on to defeat Adam Scott in 19 holes, then beat his friend Boo Weekley before losing to Henrik Stenson. Tiger Woods won the tournament.

Austin said he enjoys the head-to-head challenge of match play. “I enjoy the mano-a-mano aspect of it…. Anyone can play good enough on any given day to win, and that’s the neat thing about it.”
